Romantic Movies

Lists of romantic movies are always unpredictable. In 2002 the American Film Institute released its list of the Top 100 Greatest Love Stories of All Time. There are definitely some great movies but the occasional chick flick always sneaks in.

The list we came up with definitely has both along with a few off-beat and/or quirky movies that we like. Our list is in no particular order and if the movie is in the AFI ranking we're included that in parentheses. Some you'll recognize, some are a little offbeat, all have a unique love story.

Our list is shown below and you'll find the AFI list over the next few pages.

What's you favorite romantic movie? Is it on our list? Is it on the AFI list? What movies do you think we should add to this page?

Our List:

(1) Casablanca - Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman star in THE romantic movie. Bogart plays a mysterious bar owner who's heart has been broken by Bergman. When she shows up later in his bar with another man the sparks fly. Great acting, a great story, and romance. This movie won 3 academy awards for Best picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.

LA Story - Steve Martin and Victoria Tennant: Martin plays a "wacky" weatherman trying to navigate the strange world of life, love, and relationships in Los Angeles in the early 1990's. Tennant plays an English reporter trying to make sense of it all. Sarah Jessica Parker, Marilu Henner, and a talking freeway billboard all play a part in this very funny romantic movie.

(19) Ghost - Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore

Father Goose - Cary Grant and Leslie Caron

(45) Sleepless in Seattle - Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan

The Big Easy - Ellen Barkin and Dennis Quaid

(51) Bringing Up Baby - Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn

Bull Durham - Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon

Chocolat - Juliette Binoche

(21) Pretty Woman - Richard Gere and Julia Roberts

(88) The Princess Bride - Cary Elwes and Robin Wright

(54) Sabrina - Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn

Sabrina - Harrison Ford and Julia Ormond

Benny and Joon - Johnny Depp and Mary Stuart Masterson
